Course Correction

Photographing nature and when possible wildlife has always been my primary direction with my photography. A few years ago a new style of photography called high dynamic range or HDR emerged. I immediately liked what I saw and soon began experimenting with the various in camera techniques and computer software used to produce these images. As I suspect a lot of HDR practitioners have I was first taken by the wonderful images of Trey Ratcliff of StuckinCustoms.com. Trey has always been very open about sharing his work and techniques believing that such an attitude would eventually lead him to fame and ultimately fortune. Not sure how much fortune can be made thru photography these days but I think from my perspective I would have to say he has been extremely successful. Recently I have been impressed by the work of three other fine HDR photographers….. Cheyenne Rouse of CheyenneRouse.com, Kim Seng of CaptainKimo.com and Angela Pan of ABPan.com. Now to my ‘course correction’. As an early adopter of HDR I made images in that style and even added a few to my site but still maintained some traditional style images on my web page. I’ve retired from real work and now get to play at my photography. And as I plan to travel a lot this year I thought it was important to settle on which way I planned to shoot the ‘Specks on the Map’ I see along the way before I headed out. I thought it was also important to reflect that on my site. Well I can’t imagine not shooting HDR so that’s where my work is heading. If you happen to notice changes to my website in the coming weeks it will simply be to align what I am presenting with my current style. Thanks for listening.

Time for a New Start

As this year marks a new chapter in my life today marks the beginning of my new blog. As many of you know I retired from my career job after 39 years and now am able to devote myself to my real passion of photography. I’m not sure how much content I’ll have for a few weeks but I have lots of travel planned for this year. I’m working on itineraries to visit many locations and national parks in the southwest and in the fall to start at Glacier National Park and work my way south with the season. Hopefully I can provide the reader with information as well as photographs of interest about those places I visit. I’d love to hear comments either here or by e-mail as to ways I can improve my blog for you. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.
